The people behind

SONIC TRACES

We listen with different ears:

artistically and dramaturgically, spatially and conceptually, technologically and pragmatically.

Our experience as practitioners emerges from the interplay of storytelling, sound design, art, software, spatial perception, and mediation.

What connects us is a shared question:

How does a place become an experience?

And how can sound, voice, history, and technology come together in a form that feels natural, effortless, and alive?

No Departments. One Shared Ear.
Agile development.

In our projects, roles overlap and inform one another.

A narrative can reshape a system.
A space can transform a sound.
A technological possibility can change the dramaturgy.

This way of working requires precision, but also openness.

We understand SONIC TRACES as a laboratory of theory and practice: listening, designing, testing, discarding, refining, and condensing—until an experience emerges that truly responds to its place.

Our work is driven by curiosity, grounded in research, and shaped through experimentation. We move between artistic practice, technological development, and cultural mediation, always searching for forms that make places, stories, and relationships perceptible in new ways.

Because meaningful experiences do not begin with technology.

They begin with attention.

Thomas Aichinger designs sonic spaces for immersive experiences. As a Spatial Audio Designer, Sound Designer, Composer, and co-founder of SONIC TRACES, he explores the relationship between 3D audio, narrative environments, movement, and technology. His work transforms sound from something merely heard into something that can be navigated, experienced, and inhabited.

Programming Interaction Real-Time Systems App Development

Hannes Köcher develops the interactive systems behind SONIC TRACES. As a media artist and programmer, he bridges content and experience, transforming ideas into responsive environments. His work translates space, movement, and sound into systems that react to visitors in real time, enabling immersive experiences in which technology remains present yet unobtrusive. Through the interplay of interaction, software, and spatial design, he helps create experiences that feel intuitive, dynamic, and alive.

Story Concept Audio Direction Sound Design Overall Design

Peter Kollreider is a co-founder of SONIC TRACES. He develops narratives, sonic environments, and dramaturgical frameworks for immersive audio experiences. His background spans communication studies, media philosophy, computer music, sound design, and acoustic storytelling. His work explores how voices and sounds can be shaped into interactive narratives—and how spaces can be experienced differently through voice, sound, and atmosphere. At the intersection of concept, dramaturgy, and design, he creates experiences that invite audiences not only to listen, but to enter and explore.
