Klang.Raum.Orchester is an app-based workshop experience for school students, developed in collaboration with the Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich.
Bringing a virtual orchestra directly into the classroom, the project invites participants to move through the orchestra’s soundscape, search for instruments, complete musical missions, and discover classical works through listening, movement, and play.

Solution
An orchestra is a complex organism.
Many instruments, many voices, many movements—and yet together they create a single, coherent sound. For young listeners, this structure can be difficult to grasp when it is explained only from the outside.
Klang.Raum.Orchester therefore asks a different question:
What happens when students can walk through an orchestra instead of simply sitting in front of it?
Developed together with the Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria, this educational experience brings the sound of an orchestra virtually into the classroom. The school gymnasium becomes an acoustic playground where students move, listen, search, compare, and discover.
Music is not presented as a finished object. Instead, it becomes a space to explore.
Where do the violins sit? What do the brass instruments sound like up close? How does the music change as you move toward a particular section? What color or mood does a certain sound evoke? And how do you recognize an instrument when you cannot see it and must rely entirely on listening?
These questions become musical missions.
Participants search for instruments within the orchestra, connect emotions to specific pieces, identify tempos, and solve challenges where attentive listening matters more than prior knowledge. Learning becomes less about testing and more about engaging curiosity and attention.
Along the way, students encounter iconic and widely loved works from the orchestral repertoire. Rather than beginning with terminology, they begin with relationships: between sound and emotion, instrument and space, movement and musical structure.
What makes Klang.Raum.Orchester distinctive is this combination of experience and learning. Classical music is neither simplified nor treated as a museum piece. Instead, it is translated into a situation that invites exploration and curiosity. The orchestra becomes something students are free to investigate for themselves.
