Euphonya turns this idea into a new way of experiencing music. Rather than hearing classical music from the distance of a concert hall seat, the app places listeners at the very heart of the orchestra.

Users navigate a virtual acoustic space and discover how a piece changes depending on where they are. Move closer to the violins, stand among the violas, or experience the power of the timpani from just a few feet away. Every position reveals a different perspective on the music.

The result is a viewpoint that is rarely accessible in a traditional concert setting: the perspective of the musicians themselves.

Created in collaboration with the Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria, Euphonya is built on recordings made at the Grafenegg Auditorium. These recordings form the foundation of a spatial listening experience in which orchestral sound unfolds around the listener. Rather than perceiving music as a single blended surface, users can explore its internal architecture—its sections, distances, movements, dialogues, and tensions.

A free exploration mode allows users to move through the orchestra and discover their own listening perspectives. In addition, a commentary mode guides listeners through selected works. Music experts highlight details worth listening for, explain the artistic choices behind the performance, and reveal how a composition is constructed from within—all while placing listeners directly beside the instrumental sections being discussed.

For those who prefer to sit back and simply enjoy the music, Euphonia also offers a unique listening position: the “best seat in the house.” Not as an abstract stereo illusion, but as a fully spatial listening experience that captures the depth, acoustics, and atmosphere of the concert hall itself.
